From the Foreword
At Borusan Contemporary, working with a diversity of curatorial voices is key to the mission of our special exhibition program, which focuses on the media arts activities of this institution. When the idea arose initially to work with Rudolf Frieling, curator of media arts at SFMOMA, to create an exhibition at Borusan Contemporary, it was immediately apparent that this would be a uniquely layered presentation. In this collaboration, not only are we fortunate to be working with one of the preeminent curators and thinkers in the field internationally, but we also have the opportunity to examine another media arts collection in the context of the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection. Presenting work and artists from another institution, particularly one of the few institutions that also has a focus on collecting media arts, has inspired a considerable amount of dialogue about this thread of collecting as a strategy and the special issues associated with this kind of venture.
This exhibition likewise marks a rare occasion that multiple Works from some of the most important American artists represented in SFMOMA’s media arts collection are on view internationally together outside of the Museum that, at the current time, is undergoing construction for its major expansion Project, opening early 2016.
