Doug Aitken: Naked City” Workshop Program for Adults

Textile Collage Workshop with Tara Hopkins

27 April 2025 Sun 11:00 - 15:00

What can we hold on to in times of stress and uncertainty - such as the pandemic? Undoubtedly, collective creation and art… Inspired by this idea, the Textile Collage Workshop with Tara Hopkins focuses on the unifying power of collective production.

Inspired by Digital Detox (2020), one of the works featured in American multidisciplinary artist Doug Aitken’s exhibition Naked City (2024) at Borusan Contemporary, this workshop draws from Aitken’s fabric-based collages made during the pandemic. Hopkins invites participants to explore handcraft and textile work, transforming the act of making into a meaningful space for connection and collective expression.

Tara Hopkins:
Tara Hopkins came to Türkiye in 1989 to teach at Anadolu University. Her journey, which began in academia, gradually transitioned into impactful roles in civil society, including work with Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation and Sabancı University’s Civic Involvement Projects. She played a role in the founding of Ashoka Turkey and provided consultancy for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP). Since 2008, she has led çöp(m)adam, a social enterprise that empowers uninsured women to transform waste materials into creative and functional products. Hopkins’ work centers on creating spaces that help individuals develop their self-confidence while also making a positive impact on others and the planet.
